Nylgut Frailing Banjo Strings

Pisgah Banjo Co partnered with Aquila Strings to provide simply the best simulated gut strings on the market today for banjo. Formulated specifically for open-back clawhammer banjo, minstrel banjo, and other old-time styles, these strings add mellowness and plunk to your tone, making your banjo sound like it is from the turn of the 19th century. The nylgut strings are strong and resistant to changes in moisture and humidity. They stand up to any playing conditions and are perfect for festivals, jam settings, or playing at home on your porch. Truly a pleasure to play, these strings feel like butter as you plunk along to your favorite tune!

RECOMMENDATIONS: Use a bowline hitch knot. You may need something to grab the end of the string to pull it tight when you tie the knots. Be sure to tune up slowly as you add tension. Please note, the nut slots and possible bridge slots may need to be widened to accommodate these strings. Forcing them through spaces too narrow and sharp can cause breakage.

Keep strings in the original packaging until you are ready to replace them.   Clip excess length of string close to the tuning peg after winding.  Clean strings after use with a cotton rag.  Replace strings every 1-3 months or as needed, depending on how often you play.

Note that using 5th string railroad spikes with Nylgut strings may cause breakage, due to their more delicate nature.  Adjustments at the nut / bridge may be required to accommodate Nylgut strings when switching from steel strings, due to their wider gauge.

Pisgah “Pete Seeger Style” Banjo Bridge

Made in the USA by Pisgah Banjo Company, this iconic bridge is modeled after Pete Seeger’s uniquely styled banjo bridge. It is designed to create more volume and “plunk”  without increasing sustain or overtones. It will also never tip over!  Choose from 1/2″, 5/8″, 11/16″, and 3/4″ height, all with standard 1-11/16″ string spacing. This bridge is designed to evenly distribute string pressure to all 4 feet. Bridge is 3-D printed from Polylactic Acid (PLA), a biodegradable polymer derived from sugar cane and will eventually biodegrade in 200-300 years. Original bridges were made out of plastic circuit board material! Add some style, tone and options to your banjo arsenal!  Sound clip is from a banjo with a wooden tone ring, skin head, 12″ rim, and medium gauge strings. 3D Design credited to Kyle VanMeter and Steven Arms. Overall original concept design credited to Stew Jamison.

Clawhammer Capo

Made exclusively for us by KatEyz Capos, this handsome solid brass capo is designed specifically for clawhammer style banjos.  Most banjo capos on the market today are designed for bluegrass banjos which have a much narrower width at the nut than open-back/clawhammer banjos. This one is 1 5/8″ wide on the inside and can capo all the way up to the fourth fret with no problem.  The V shaped clamp with leather cushion fits a variety of neck profiles and holds a stable position without moving around.  Store this capo easily on your nut for easy accessibility when you need it quick.  Made in the USA.

Does not fit 5/6 string banjos.

Armadillo Armrest

The Armadillo Armrest is Pisgah Banjo’s feature wooden armrest!  Ergonomically designed to improve playing, it allows for the most comfortable playing experience.  It is made in the USA at the Pisgah Banjo Company workshop using native Appalachian Hardwoods Walnut and Cherry (also available in Richlite!).

Brass mounting feet allow for easy installation and adjustment with only a bracket wrench or The Banjo Tweaker required to install.  The L-feet attach to the banjo’s bracket shoes and hooks using the tension nuts and are compatible with all hook-mounted heads, regardless of bracket spacing.  It is universally sized to fit any brand 11″ or 12″ open-back banjo by floating over the tension hoop and head, while not interfering with your banjo’s tone.   Natural, water-based finish.

Grain, and color may vary due to the nature of wood.

We are sorry, no left handed version available at this time, however our vintage-style brass Wire Armrest can be used by both left and right handed players.
