Pisgah Banjos is excited to announce another chance to win a very unique custom banjo! Raffle tickets are $20 each and all proceeds will benefit the Arnold Shultz Fund, a scholarship dedicated to people of color pursuing traditional, old-time, and bluegrass music! The first $10,000 raised will be gifted to the Black Banjo Reclamation Project from the Arnold Shultz fund to support gourd banjo building in the black banjo community.  Our goal is to sell 2,000 tickets and raise $40,000 in total.

The Prize: A custom built Pisgah Banjo made from Red Spruce from United States 2022 Capital Christmas Tree “Ruby”.  The Pisgah District of the US Forest Service was tasked to supply the US Capitol Christmas tree for 2022.  In a major effort to make useful items from this tree, Pisgah Banjos was asked to build some banjos out of this precious wood.  Three banjos were made…one going to the Forest Service, one to The Southern Highlands Preserve Red Spruce Non Profit, and the third going to the 2024 Pisgah Banjo Raffle benefiting the Arnold Shultz Fund and The Black Banjo Reclamation Project.

The first 10k raised will go to the BBRP and the remaining amount to the Arnold Shultz general fund.   Pisgah Banjos has raised a total of 89k over the past 3 years for the IBMA Foundation. Pisgah Banjos chose to benefit the Arnold Shultz fund as a way to help re-appropriate the history of the banjo.

We hope this encourages the banjo community and beyond to discover the early American history of folk music, which was influenced heavily by early American Black culture, and the banjo, which came to the Americas via enslaved Africans.

Timeline: In honor of Black History Month, the raffle will start February 1st and end at midnight on MARCH 24. Winner announced at the beginning of April.

Tickets:  $20 each, limited quantity of 2,000 total tickets will be available. The more tickets you purchase, the more chances you have to win.  One name for each ticket purchased will be placed in a box and will be randomly drawn and announced via social media. We will also notify the winner via phone and email.

Because of YOU, we have raised a total of $89,040 for the Arnold Shultz Fund over the last 3 years!  Last year you helped us raise $29,580, in 2022 you helped us raise $32,720, and in 2021, you helped us raise $26,740!  Thank you for your continued support!

The IBMA Foundation established the Arnold Shultz Fund in 2020 to support activities increasing participation of people of color in bluegrass music. Arnold Shultz (1886–1931) was an African American musician from western Kentucky who had a profound influence on Bill Monroe and the development of bluegrass.
